Alexander The Great Review

Synopsis - Prathapa Varma (Saikumar) leaves all his property in the name of his stepson Alexander Varma (Mohanlal).Manu (Bala),his other son tries to attain his signature in order to get the legal power over the property.

Script - Inspired from Dustin Hoffman-Tom Cruise starrer "The Rainman",this film deals with a person who has a high IQ level n thus looks abnormal in the eyes of others because of his attitude towards life. This is what the scriptwriter has done to Hoffman's character who suffers from Autism in the original.Almost the first portion reminds you of The Rainman. But the scriptwriter was able to adapt it to Malayalam very well along with the director. If you take this movie as an entertainer or time-pass,then you won't have to blame the screenplay since it provides entertainment throughout. But if you start to be a a bit microscopic, then you might find the development of script is not seen much. But for me,its quite s decent job done by a not so known writer,P Balachandran. What makes this predictable film is the way scenes are ordered, quite unpredictable actually.Plus U mite feel, the makers have glorified Mohanlal's Alexander a bit too much, showing his skills n predictions turning true etc.but nowadays U see worse than these.

Direction - Murali Nagavally has done just a fine job.At times,he seems to be out of touch n amateurish. At times,he got a good grip over the film.I felt like he was waiting Mohanlal to be introduced in this film (which wasn't a great one actually),so that half of the load maybe put onto his head.Because, the movie starts to look different in a positive manner after the entry of Lal.But its quite a relief that he didn't make any attempt to glorify Mohanlal the star.

Cast & Performance - Mohanlal was too good as usual.A person who did Thanmathra won't find this role challenging,But what he was able to convey consistently was the "innocence" required by the character.Bala was OK.He has loads of room to improve, but his best character in Malayalam till now.Sudhachandran was relief n looked fresh while comparing to KPAC,Kavyoor,Sukumari etc.But the person who dubbed for her was a bit irritating.Sidhiqque has to do another HALLO with full hair.Nedumudi,Ganesh etc were good.Jagadeesh was again inconsistent.Meenaxi as Bala's lover didn't have much to do n was below average.

Music & Background Score - Etho Oru Vaakil...stands out.M G Sreekumar has done a great job as a music director n singer.A perfect song to start the film.Rest all were below average. The Background Score was at times a bit loud.
Production Value - The producer seems to have no probs in spending money. He n Director has chosen Dubai,Mumbai etc to give a slick look to this film.I believe its a good move,or else the film would have looked bad.

Technical Expertise - Cinematography was good.I personally didn't like Mohanlal's getup, even if its meant to show Lal as an innocent guy.Editing was fine.

Overall.....A movie which should have been released during Vishu.A Feel Good Entertainer.U won't see much gimmicks or punchlines in this movie (if tats wat u r expecting in an entertainer)...So 7/10[/]as an entertainer

P:S - The film would surely done better business if released during Vishu. Now with ONV releasing next week n bad pre publicity,it might affect the film.
