Hardly could any Keralite forget the cartoon characters Boban and Molly, sketched by cartoonist Toms, which appeared for three decades in popular weeklies. Thereafter, Toms took initiatives to publish its compilations in magazine format which was also very popular. The biggest success with its characters like Appy Hippy, to President and Unnikuttan and the entire package were its sharp criticisms on the society and on Malayalee attitudes. Now the good news for the fans of the series is that the cartoon characters are expected to be presented as a full length feature film in a short while. Vijayakumar Thiruvalla is the director of this venture which will be scripted jointly by Toms and the director. The movie will present the arrival of the entire group of characters to a village and will depict how they progressively interact with the societal problems of the village. To be produced by Kiran Varma and Shyja Vijay, the movie will be cinematographed by Nambyathiri. The director and his crew is presently in the lookout for the apt artists and fresh faces who can adequately present the mannerisms of some of the best known cartoon characters of Malayalam.
