His films redefined the Malayalam movies in 90s. Sibi is often associated with the legendary script writer Lohithadas who passed away last year. As they had a good rapport as director and writer, Sibi failed terribly after Lohithadas went on to direct his own films, which was not a great decision.
The director is back with his new film Apoorva Ragam which stars Asif Ali of Ritu, Nishan and Nithya Menon in the lead roles. Most of the remaining characters are also entrants.
Vidyasagar has scored music. Camera is by Ajayan Vincent. GS Anand and Najeeb Koya write story and screenplay for this unusual love story. Dialogues are by AR Abhimanyu. The art direction is by Prasanth Madhav. Thyagarajan looks after the Stunt, and choreography is by Shanthi. The film's shooting has been completed in Bangalore and Kochi and will be released this month.
Sibi's earlier campus movies were pranayavarnagal and Devadoothan. The film is produced by Siyad Kokker under the banner Kokker's films.

Kushboo one of the finest actresses in south is once again doing a Malayalam film. She is doing a role in the Ranjith directed Pranchiyettan and the Saint which features Mammootty and Priyamani in the lead. Last time Kushboo did a Malayalam film was for the same director’s Kaioppu in which she played Mammootty’s old flame without sharing screen space with him! Kushboo will play a society lady in Pranchiyettan and the Saint. The film is a satire and a black comedy based on a rich Syrian Christian rice merchant Enasu Francis of Trichur played by Mammootty. He wants to climb up the society ladder but has only basic education. Priyanandanan with Kavya Madhavan
National award winning director Priyanandanan had recently been in an art house movie as an actor. Now after his acting assignments, the much accomplished director is back to making films. His new movie will be titled as ‘Bhaktha Njangalude Sradhakku’, which will have Kavya Madhavan as the heroine. Based on a story by Renjith, the movie will be scripted to suit the screen by P Manoj. Popular actor Irshad will be the protagonist of the movie which will also feature Jagathy, Suraj, Lal, Bijukuttan, Sreeraaman, Sadhique, Lalu Alex and Nishanath Sagar. This will be the first project from Priyanandanan will such a large number of known popular artists in the frames. To be shot in and around Palakkad, the movie will start its shoot in a couple of months. Vineeth Sreenivasan's directorial venture Malarvadi Arts Club is almost ready for release. Vineeth has already proved his multi talented persona with his singing and acting capabilities. Malarvadi Arts Club is the story of the modern youth and their dreams.
New Comers Prakasan, Kuttu, Praveen, Purushu, Santhosh, Revathi, and Geethu makes their debut in the film. Nedumudi Venu, Jagathy Sreekumar, Suraaj Venjaramood, Salim Kumar and Innocent does the other leading roles in Malarvadi.
In addition to directing the movie, Vineeth also writes the screenplay. Vineeth tries to experiment new generation formula in Malayalam films as well. Malarvadi Arts club is about the friendship of five youngsters in a village named Manassery in North Malabar in Kerala. They run the Malarvadi Arts Club.
Popular Malayalam actor Dileep produces the movie, under the banner Grand Productions. P. Sukumar wields the camera for the film.

Oru Naal Varum Review - A Clean Family Entertainer
Writing -Sreenivasan is one-man army who continues winning streak even after most of his peers stopped writing. Malayalees have given him an eminent position that, this man stars brighter than the superstars. The last film he wrote was Katha Parayumbol which was a success beyond borders. The problem when he comes into a project is that, even directors get overshadowed. Many film viewers consider Sreenivasan as the filmmaker even in films he acts.
The film starts with showing the life of curropt Asst. Town Planning officer played by Sreenivasan. The smooth run of the story falls into gutter when ever the irrelevant family plot raises its head. Film doesn't have boring scenes except those. Sameera Reddy with her stony expressions haven't got anything to do in this film. The director has failed in casting her for the role. Like the wife, she portrays in film, Lal and Sameera doesn't have any similarity and also act without any screen chemistry. Another actress would have done more justice to the role. The child artist should have been given more instructions to act convincingly.
In some scenes the filmmaker has tried to be slapstick, but failed. The fight scene is another pointless addition. Cinematography by Manoj Pillai is ok, though we could see the reflections of crew in more than one scene.
Undoubtedly, the scenes with Lal and Sreeni acting together are hilarious and engaging. Sreenivasan looks healthier and is not mocking any of his ready-made expressions. Their penultimate film Ividam Swargamanu and this film has something in common, the fight against bureaucracy.
Suraj Venjarammood is good in, what he is best at. Indrans who is in a couple of scenes give us a few chuckles. Devayani as the wife of Sreenivasan has done good job. Nedumudi does a character role. This two and half hour film goes from one turn to the next at a splendid pace. The film produced by Manian Pillai Raju will make pots of money.
Archana Kavi to Kollywood
Archana Jose Kavi the lovely girl appreciated for her lovely portrayal of the role Kunjimalu in ‘Neelathamara’ has got her first Tamil offer and that was from Vasanthabalan who made some memorable films like ‘Veyil’ and ‘Angadi Theru’. Archana was before called for an audition by the reputed director Bala of ‘Pitamagan’, ‘Nandha’ and ‘Naan Kadavul’ fame. But that did not materialize at the end. Now Archana has got an equally best offer from Vasanthabalan in his forthcoming Tamil film ‘Aravaan’. Director Vasanthabalan made the official announcement few days ago. 'Aravaan' film will have ‘Eeram’ fame Aadhi as the protagonist. Archana Kavi and Dhanshika are the two heroines in the film. ‘Veyil’ fame Pasupathy is also playing an important role. ‘Aravaan’ is a period film happening in the 18th century Tamil Nadu. Popular singer Karthik is debuting as the music composer. Siddarth of 'Yaaradi Nee Mohini' fame would wield the camera. T Siva of Amma Creations would produce the film. Saritha and Mukesh Divorce Appeal On September
The divorce petition of yesteryear heroine Saritha and her husband Mukesh has been deferred to 21st September. Married in 1987, Mukesh, a popular actor in Malayalam, and Saritha had been living separately for sometime now. The couple has two sons who are 20 and 17. About 10 years back, the couple had difference of opinion and Saritha called for the separation leading to divorce, which is still pending on the bench of honorary court in Chennai. The family court as per the formalities ordered a 6 month separation period and ordered the couple for counseling. The counseling seemed to have fallen in deaf ears and the couple was hell-bent on the divorce. As a result of which the judge who has taken up the case has deferred the hearing date to September 21st. Oru Naal Varum on July 9
Mohanlal’s eagerly awaited film Oru Naal Varum will not make it even this Friday due to the stand off between Film Exhibitors Federation and Film Producer and Distributor associations. Says Manian Pillai Raju, producer of Oru Naal Varum : “We are ready with the prints but standoff continues, so this Friday (July 2) is out. Let us hope that the matter would be sorted out at the Saturday (June3) meeting called by all associations jointly in Kochi. I’m positive that things will be worked out and the film will release on July 9 at the earliest.” Similarly Jayasurya’s Nallavan too has been pushed to July 9. This means all pending July releases will be pushed back by a week, if everything is sorted out. Pritviraj’s new film Anwar for Ramzan
Amal Neerad has completed the shoot of hisAnwar with the shoot of a song on the lead pair Prithviraj and Mamta in never seen before (in Malayalam) locales of Kullu Manali. The film is set against the background of terrorism and Prithviraj is said to be playing the role of a terrorist in the film. Prakash Raj plays the role of a cop who heads the anti-terrorist wing, while Lal plays an influential Muslim politician. Sai Kumar, Salim Kumar and others are also in the cast. Gopi Sundar is said to have provided some great melodies based on Hindusthani classical tunes with lyrics written by Rafeek Ahmed. Anwar is produced by Raj Zacharias and distributed by the new company Red Carpet Company and was scheduled to release on July 2. But since the post production work on the movie could not be completed on schedule, the film will now release only for Perunal (Ramzan) on September 10. Major Ravi starts 'Kandahar'
As usual with the making of his every other films, Major Ravi has started the formal shoot if his latest ‘Kandahar’ by canning the essential military operations. This time the director, who specialises on military stories, is shooting the operations at the Dehradun, Indian military Academy. Based on the infamous Air India flight hijack, the movie will be a thriller. Though the shoot has started a week ahead of the initial schedules, the major stars of the movie will only join the sets by next week. As per the latest information Mohanalal, Amithabah Bachchan and Ganesh Venkatraman are the part of this big movie. Lal will once again come up as Colonel Mahadevan while Ganesh will be as a commando, one of his trusted aides in the movie. Amithabh Bachchan appears in a short cameo as a business bigwig, who is the father of an youth traveling in the hijacked flight. While Tamil hottie, Kaveri Jha will be donning the role of an air hostess in the film, Kannada star Ragini Dwivedi will be in the role of other heroine. Juhi Chawla again with Mohanlal - Gaatha
Juhi Chawla was finalized for the role after considering many faces including Madhuri Dixit and Jaya Bachchan. The film will commence in June in Ladakh.
Bollywood yester year star Juhi Chawla debuted in Malayalam a decade ago in the Fazil movie Harikrishnan’s. Though the actors have shared screen earlier, it was different for HariKrishnan’s as, they both have become big stars by then. The movie featured Mammootty and Mohanlal and made much controversy due to double climax which tried to satisfy the fans of both stars. It was in the year 1998. A grand reunion was seen last year in the film Twenty Twenty.
Gaatha a musical entertainer is based on a short story, Kadal written by T. Padmanabhan and will have locations in Chennai and Vienna.
Gaatha will feature many foreign technicians.
Theatres are currently playing Alexander the Great and Janakan. Mohanlal has almost completed shooting for the film Shikar and his upcoming projects are Kandahar, Casanova and China Town.

July is likely to be a big month for Malayalam cinema as far as releases are concerned. A mixture of big and small films is due for release this month. Some of them were to release earlier but the stalemate between distributors and exhibitors have delayed their releases. Mammootty becomes Best Actor
Mammootty is giving breaks to a lot of new directors “who have ideas that can make a hit”. His new director is Martin Prakkat, fashion photographer who does great portfolios for the leading women magazine ‘Vanitha’. During one of his journalistic assignments he met Mammootty and struck a friendship with the actor which led to him becoming director of a Mammootty film. The star was impressed by his script about a UP school teacher who wants to be a film actor! So Mammootty asked his right hand man Anto Joseph and Naushad, to produce Martin’s film which has been titled Best Actor. The film is said to be an emotional at the same time rocking comedy entertainer. Kannada actress Sruthi Ramakrishnan is Mammootty heroine in the film. Along with Mammootty there is strong supporting cast headed by Lal, Nedumudi Venu, Salim Kumar, Vinayagan and a special cameo by the comedy king Suraj Venjaranmoodu! Old timer Ajay Vincent is the cameraman, Don Max the editor, and Bijibal provides music. The film is produced by Anto Joseph and Naushad under the banner of Big Screen, which last produced the hit Chattambinadu. Best Actorwill be distributed by Play House and will be Mammootty’s Ramzan release. I will commit suicide-Thilakan
“If the government is not taking adequate action against those who are denying me jobs, I am planning to start an agitation before the house of the State cultural minister, M A Baby. And if the agitation doesn't prove useful, I am even ready to go to the extent of committing suicide”, threatened veteran actor Thilakan. ''I am planning to bring to the notice of various organs of government, the continuous job denial practiced against me by various organisations in show business. At present I am accumulating sufficient proofs so that I can satisfactorily prove my case'', adds the agitated actor. Thilkan is expected to join the sets of 'Achchan' by Ali Akbar, in which he will be donning the central role, by the end of this month.
Lal Jose to introduce Ann
Lal Jose is not only a creative director, but is also a pathbreaker. He has introduced more heroines to Malayalam cinema in recent times than any other director. In his new film Elsamma Enna Aankutty, he is introducing character actor Augustine’s daughter Ann(see pic). Some of his finds who made it big are Kavya Madhavan (Chandranuddikunna Dikkil, her first heroine role) Jyothirmayi (Meesa Madhavan), Samvrutha Sunil (Rasikan), Tessa (Pattalam), Muktha (Achan Urangathu Veedu), Meera Nandan (Mulla) and Archana Kavi (Neelathamara). Ann will be the first of Lal Jose’s heroines who is from the film industry itself. Indrajith and Kunchacko Boban are the male leads in the film. The film would also have Nedumudi Venu, Janardhanan, Jagathy Sreekumar, Manianpillai Raju, Sooraj Venjaranmoodu, Vijayaraghavan and KPAC Lalitha in supporting roles. Former journalist Sindhu Raj, who had earlier scripted Lal Jose's Mulla would be scripting the film, produced by M Ranjith. The music of the film would be composed by Rajamani. Mamta Mohandas to sing for Thriller!
Mamta Mohandas is going to sing a song for Prithviraj’s B Unnikrishnan directed Thriller, under the baton of Tamil music director Dharan. The film is based on the recent controversial Paul Muthoot murder case which shocked Kerala. Prithviraj plays ACP Niranjan who is put in charge of the investigation. The others in the cast are Jagathy, Siddiq, Lalu Alex and Saikumar Though no leading lady has been signed for the film, Mamta may do a cameo with the song she sings to be picturised on her. Director Unnikrishnan is planning a music video for the film’s television promotion. Aashirwad to release nine Lal flicks
Mohanlal's Man Friday Antony Perumbavoor's Ashirwad Release will either produce or bring to theatres, nine Mohanlal films in the next three years. They will work in association with Mohanlal's Max Lab release, to create so many films. Padmakumar's ‘Shikaar’, Major Ravi's 'Kandahar' and Roshan Andrew's 'Casanova' will be the movies from other producers that Aashirwad will present to theatres, this year. After these films Aashirwad will start ‘Chinatown’ to be directed by Rafi-Mecartin. After these movies, directors like Siddhique, Sathyan Anthikkad, Thampi Kannanthanam, Shafi and Renji Panikkar will team up with Lal in flicks that will be produced and distributed by Aashirwad films. In short, by next year almost all Mohanlal productions will be produced and distributed by Aashirwad in association with Max Lab release.
