Listen to the ridiculous lyrics and music of the song “Pathalle, pathalle nee ennum aapathalle…” and you will know what to expect from director Ajmal'sRing Tone!

Sadly, things turn out to be even worse and in plain words, the film is nothing less than an insult to the viewers. With no worthy script and amateurish direction, the only surprise here is on how those involved managed to convince others to go ahead and make a film like this.

It is actually a painful thing to remember the exact storyline, as none of those behind its making seems to have a clue about that as well. Even the relevance of the title is never explained but no one is going to bother about all these after two hours of excruciating experience, watching this one.

Krishna (Bala) flees from the cops after he inadvertently becomes involved in a bomb blast at a hospital. After certain unbelievable incidents, he finds refuge in the home of the virtuous Thampuran (Rajan P Dev), a rich man living in a sleepy village near Tamil Nadu.

Believe it or not, there is a girl named Meera (Megha Nair) who lands up at the same place and everyone thinks that the two are love birds. Quite obviously this starts the song ‘n’ dance routines as well. If you are interested still, there is a Naxalite angle to the story and a super-cop, Nainan Koshy (Suresh Gopi) makes his entry soon.

It's not just the script or direction that is faulty here, the production quality is tacky as well. The visuals look ordinary and less said about the music, the better. The sets look ordinary and the thrills lack any fizz.

Suresh Gopi tries in vain to look like some of his high voltage characters from the past as a cop and try to mimic some of those styles. Both Bala and Megha Nair seem to have been competing with each other to come up with the worst performance. (Of course, they will share the prize as it is difficult to decide who the winner is). The rest of the cast, including Rajan P Dev, Sai Kumar, Anoop Chandran and Zeenath among others have only limited roles to play.

After watching the film, the first thing that would be in the viewer's mind is on why someone should produce this crap? Other than wasting money and time, films like these serves no particular purpose. Take a walk, have some nice food, watch a nice movie on DVD, just doze off or if you are too particular, go for this movie, but at your own risk only!

Suresh Gopi back to police

Suresh Gopi and police uniforms are like hands and glows. The best suited role for Suresh Gopi, has been repeated by the actor umpteenth number of times in movies, probably two to three times every year. This time Suresh Gopi will be in the uniform for another stylish director Dr Janardhanan, the maker of many stylish detective tele-serials. He had earlier landed into filmdom with the movie 'Mahasamudram' featuring Mohanlal. Let's wait and see what differences will Janardhanan who is also the writer of his movies, have to offer to Suresh Gopi's character in the police uniform.

It will be of much curiousness to note that two films 'Ringtone’ and ‘Kanyakumari Express’, which are yet to be released will also, have the star in the same role.

Suresh Gopi apologizes to AMMA

Suresh Gopi had to apologies to AMMA for making a comment that Malayalam film stars should not take part in television shows.

It was seen as a statement in support of Kerala Film Chamber (KFC), which has been demanding it to be implemented.

Comedian Jagadeesh had come down heavily on Gopi’s statement and said that the action hero was targeting Mukesh, a bitter rival. Gopi till Monday evening struck to his statement and said that he would not withdraw it.

But on Tuesday he had a change of heart and said that he would apologize for making such a rash statement and would not speak his heart out on such sensitive subjects in future.

Debutant director N R Sanjeev's film has an inherent appeal mainly because of its genuine theme. But the problem here is that the real issues in the story lose its focus with its overdose of clichéd dialogues and the attempts to glorify the heroes.

Worse still, the same storyline was narrated by director M A Nishad in his film Vairam last year and it is sad that no earnest attempts have been made to package this one in a better way than the earlier film.

Viswanathan (Suresh Gopi), Monayi (Biju Menon) and Palani (Harisree Asokan) are fleeing from the cops and after several hurdles, they manage to reach ace lawyer Sooryanarayanan (Mohanlal). He listens to their rather tragic story, according to which Viswanathan's teenage daughter was gang raped and brutally murdered by a dirty trio, consisting of a super-rich businessman, a cop and a young DJ.

Dr. Rani (Jyothirmayee), who had taken care of the girl at the hospital, reveals certain crucial facts to Viswanathan. After their plea for justice falls on deaf ears, Viswanathan, Monayi and Palani kill the three miscreants, one after the other. Now Sooryanarayanan decides to help them, with his smart wit and brilliance.

Director Sanjeev and scenarist S N Swamy has gone for the highly conventional ways to narrate the story. From the hero-is-always-smart type quips and the thrills with well built hunks which he wins hands down, to the excessive melodrama, there are many scenes modeled on the formulaic films of this genre! Mohanlal has a comparatively brief role, but he has almost all the stylish lines in his kitty and the versatile genius is evidently at ease doing it all in a charming way.

Though one of main highlights of the film is the bond between a couple and their darling daughter, that part is almost ignored here. The chemistry shared between Suresh Gopi, his wife played by Kaveri and their daughter is ineffective on screen and that affects the whole mood of the film as well. Of course, Suresh Gopi tries really hard and he succeeds in his attempt to look convincing to a certain extent, but both Kaveri and the young girl fails to impress. Remember, Tamil actor Pasupathi had done a spectacular performance in a similar role in Vairam.

The rest of the cast including Jyothirmayee, Biju Menon, Harisree Asokan, Vijayaraghavan, Sivaji Guruvayur, Vijayakumar and Rajith Menon have limited roles to play. Sanjeev Sankar's camera is just okay while M Jayachandran's music is pretty nice.

There are no real experiments here, true, but the film has its moments and as they say, the heart at the right place. Though the film is just above two hours, it could have been more enjoyable, if it was shorter by some 20 minutes or so.

Verdict: Watchable

A busy Vishu in Mollywood

This Vishu will be one of the busiest seasons for the Mollywood movie viewers and film buffs. The season will see the release of at least dozen films, which is sure to cause a fight for release centres for smaller films.

The first to get to theatres will be Prithvi's ‘Thanthonny’ which stands scheduled for this 18. Lal's ‘In Ghost House Inn' will get into theatres by the 25th of March. Mammooty's ‘Pramaani’ will be the wide release scheduled to be in theatres by the 26th of this month.

The weekend just before Vishu will have many multi-starrers including Mohanlal –Suresh Gopi movie ‘Janakan’, Viji Thampi's ‘April Fool’, Kalabhavan Mani's ‘Pulliman’, Shebi Chavakkad's ‘Plus Two’, Dileep's 'Pappy Appacha' and Mohanlal's 'Alexander The Great'.

Anyway it's sure that Malayalee film viewers will be having a hectic time, attending all these movies coming up in gap of two weeks.

Christian Brothers postponed!

The big budget Joshy directed multi-starrer Christian Brothers featuring Mohanlal, Suresh Gopi, Sarath Kumar, Dileep, Kavya Madhavan and Lakshmi Rai has postponed it’s release.

Christian Brothers was to release along with Mammootty’s multi- starrerPokkiri Raja on April 30, as the big summer releases. But now Mohanlal’s action movie has been pushed to July 9, and theatres have been informed about it.

A song has to be picturised on Mohanlal and Lakshmi Rai in Scotland, and the best time to picturise the song is May, when summer begins and ice melts in those parts of the world. A few more combination scenes of the main artists have to be shot hence the delay.

Suresh Gopi plays a family man, who along with his friends, gets involved in a murder and is on the run. Mohanlal plays a criminal lawyer in the film. Only his brilliance can save the friends from certain punishment. Will he be able to do that ? That is the question ???????

Most Malayalam actresses go a round in South Indian film industries before they fades. The same is the case with Tamil and Telugu industry.

Sonia Agarwal armed with innocence was the dream girl some years back due to her presence in Selvaraghavan flicks Kadhal Kondein and 7G Rainbow Colony. While working in these films they fell in love. In 2006 they married.




Marriages, separation and re entry are not news in filmdom. When the relationship gone sour, the couple separated. Sonia returned to acting through a television serial Naanal produced by Kushboo for Kalaignar TV. Now the actress got opportunity for re-entry into big screen. She will play the female lead opposite Suresh Gopi in an action flick directed by T.S Sureshbabu.

Suresh Gopi, as usual, plays a trigger happy investigative cop Mohan Shankar. MS is hated by the politicians and businessmen. He comes to rescue Chief Minister played by Jagathy Sreekumar.

The cinematographer is U.K Senthilkumar who did Padayappa and Annamalai with the superstar. Written by crime specialist Dennis Joseph, Kanyakumari Express, is claimed to have no dull moment. Sharath composes the music.
Many actors from Tamil and Telugu would act in this flick which also feature artistes like Innocent, Babu Antony, Harisri Asokan, Suraj Venjaranmoodu, Bheeman Reghu and Gowri Nanda.

G S Murli produces Kanyakumari Express under the banner of Pyramid Films International. The shooting of film is expected to start in the final week of February. Zonkerala wishes Sonia Agarwal a long lasting success in Malayalam.

Suresh Gopi goes back to the gun!!!!

Suresh Gopi is going to once again take the gun as a ruthless investigative cop in veteran action film specialist director Suresh Babu directed Kanyakumari Express, being produced by Pyramid Film International.

The story and screenplay is by another veteran crime story specialist Dennis Joseph. Gopi will play a role that he has mastered over the years- a no-nonsense hard hitting cop Mohan Shankar hated by the politicians and unscrupulous businessmen who comes to the rescue of a beleaguered Chief Minister played by Jagathy Sreekumar at a crucial time.

Says Suresh Babu: “Kanyakumari Express, will be an edge of the seat action thriller, with never a dull moment.” The cinematographer is UK Senthilkumar, one time Rajinikanth’s favourite cameraman who did films like Padyappa & Annamalai with the superstar.

Sonia Aggarwal the famous Tamil actress is rumoured to make her debut in Malayalam with this film. The others in the cast are Innocent, Babu Antony, Harisri Asokan, Sooraj Venjaranmoodu, Bheeman Reghu and Gowri Nanda.

Mohanlal fights Suresh Gopi

With the recent Thilakan issue, the season is now open for verbal fights between movie stars. But this one is not about that. What we were bringing to you was the actual fight scene between Mohanlal and Suresh Gopi, shot for the multistarrer ‘Christian Brothers’. The big stars of Malayalam who were seen fighting between themselves in a lot movies starting from ‘Rajavinte Makan’ in 1985, was last seen in the similar act for the multistarrer ‘Twenty:20’ produced by AMMA. Now after two years from that film, a fight sequence featuring Mohanlal and Suresh Gopi was shot at Kochy for ‘Christian Brothers’ by Ace director Joshy.

‘Christian Brothers’, which ignited all the recent issues with actor Thilakan, is said to feature five fight sequences. The first schedule of shoot for the movie got to the end by last week, and the next will resume after a month. Joshy is planning to shoot the rest of the portions in London and Bangalore.
